The Academic Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, founded in 1995, is the Orchestra in residence of the main concert hall of the country: the Lysenko Concert Hall.

At the present, the Orchestra is known as one of the best musical collectives of East Europe and a prominent figure in the European musical life.
Many outstanding musicians of our epoch have performed with the Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine. Among them, conductors Alexander Dmytriev, Roman Kofman, Lev Marquise, Krzysztof Penderecki; pianists Paul Badura-Skoda, Dmytry Bashkirov, Elisso Virsaladze, Vladimir Krainev, Michail Rudy, Benedetto Lupo, Laura Mikkola, Nikolay Lugansky; violinists Gidon Kremer, Salvatore Accardo, Tatyana Grindenko, Liana Isakaadze, Bogodar Kotorovich, Raphael Oleg, Patrice Fontanarrosa; violist Yuriy Bashmet; violoncellists Natalya Gutman, Ivan Monighetti; singers Victoria Lukyanets, Monserrate Caballe, Luciano Pavarotti. The Orchestra has collaborated with famous contemporary composers: Gya Kanchelli, Krzysztof Penderecki, Miroslav Skorik, Evgen Stankovich, Mikis Theodorakis.

The Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine had concert tours in Austria, Germany, France, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Japan as well as in Ukraine cities Mykolaev, Kherson, Kirovograd, Vinitsa, Poltava, Cherkassy, Sumy, Ivano-Frankovsk, Tchernivtsy.   

At the present, Chief Conductor of the Orchestra is Maestro Roman Kofman.
