Orchestra
The Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine was created in September, 1995, as a base collective of the Lysenko Concert Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine. This Hall is the main concert hall of the capital of Ukraine. It counts above centenary tradition and has prestige in Europe owing to its unique architecture and acoustics.
Leonid Tykhonov was the first conductor of the Orchestra. In 1996, the young gifted Conductor Mykola Dyadura headed the orchestra. At the same time, there was nearly complete renewal of the composition of the Orchestra with the best graduating students of higher musical educational institutions of Ukraine. So, promising young musicians came to work along with the experienced ones.
The first steps of the Orchestra were supported by prominent musicians, such as Roman Kofman, Krzysztof Penderecki, Mikis Theodorakis, Volodymyr Krajnev. In the year 1999, first in Ukraine, the young collective got a grant of the Government of Japan for acquisition of musical instruments "Yamaha".
Today, the Orchestra is acknowledged as one of the best collectives of the East Europe being a noticeable figure in the European musical life.
CREATIVE WORK Creative Credo:
Aspiration - Persistence - Inspiration. Achievements: We gave more than 500 concerts, created about 300 new programs. The range of the orchestra interest spreads on all genres, styles, and epochs. Accomplishment of the Concert Series: "Complete Beethoven's Symphonies and Overtures" (2001/2002) "Symphonies and Instrumental Concerts of Brahms" (2002/2003), dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the Birth of the Composer. Orchestra's Annual Subscriptions Series: "The ÕÕ Century Symphony" (2003/2004) "Robert Schumann and his Contemporaries" (2004/2005) First in Ukraine, the masterpieces of Berlioz "Romeo and Juliet", "Requiem" and "Te Deum" were performed (within the framework of the Festival dedicated to the 200th Anniversary of the Composer's Birth). The Orchestra co-operated with the prominent modern composers: Vitaliy Gubarenko (Ukraine), Giya Kancheli (Georgia), Krzysztof Penderecki (Poland), Myroslav Skoryk (Ukraine), Eugen Stankovych (Ukraine), M.Theodorakis (Greece). More famous choirs of Ukraine and of the world have become the traditional artistic partners of the orchestra: National Academic Choir of Ukraine "Dumka", the Big Children's Choir of the National Radio Company of Ukraine, t he Revutsky's State Male Choir of Ukraine, the Choir of the Opera of Toulon. FOREIGN TOURS AND INTERNATIONAL MUSICAL FESTIVALS. The first foreign tour of the Orchestra was in South Korea in 1996. On October 30, 1998, the Orchestra performed a concert in the Munich Philharmonic with works of Theodorakis, who also conducted the Orchestra for the occasion. The success of this concert launched the active tour activity of the Orchestra. Numerous concert tours in Germany, Spain, France, Switzerland, Poland, and Turkey have taken place. The Orchestra appeared in far-famed Philharmonic Halls in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, and Barcelona. The Orchestra became the base collective of the important International Musical Festival "La Chaise-Dieu" in France. It presented with success the musical culture of Ukraine in Switzerland (Culture Days of Ukraine in Bern). The Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine is a permanent participant of international festivals in Ukraine and Europe: "Kiev Music Fest" (Kiev), "Musical Premieres of the Season" (Kiev), "Vladimir Krajnev, invites..." (Kiev), "Virtuosos" (Lviv), musical festivals in St. Maximin (France), "La Chaise-Dieu" (France), The Festival of Sacred Music in Marseille (France), "Le Melomany", Annonay (France), Wroclaw (Poland), Bleckede (Germany), Hector Berlioz' Festival in La Cote de Saint-Andre (France). Last years the Orchestra had been on tours in Ukrainian towns: Mikolaiv, Kherson, Kirovograd, Vinnytsya, Poltava, Cherkasy, Ternopol, Sumy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv.
